Pegasus got cloned!

by Xanther on Apr.21, 2010, under World of Warcraft

Ok, enough with all the glittering horsies. I get that it’s new and shiny. And I get that it’s cool to have a mount that goes as fast as possible for the area you’re in. Heck, I wouldn’t mind having one myself! But wow there are a lot of them in Dalaran. But I think more people should look into getting livestock. Why? Because it’ll mount you with an appropriate mount for the area you’re in. It’ll choose randomly from the mounts you have too. And you can choose which ones to use or not use. So the cool part about it is that you’ll be able to show off the various mounts you have instead of the same one everyone uses every time!

Now we just need Bliz to fix one problem – the 310% mount problem. For those that have earned a 310% speed mount, that’s the only one we ever use anymore (not counting Druids – their flight form got the speed boost too). Why would we use a slower mount, other than it’s pretty, when we’re trying to get from point A to point B as fast as possible? So simple fix is to make it that those who earned the speed boost get that boost transferred to all their flying mounts. So please bliz make the change soon so I can go back to using more than 1 mount? Especially since Children’s Week is just around the corner which means I’ll soon have a Violet Proto Drake on my third character. Which means that on my 3 main characters… I use the same mount (well, ok, the 3rd one is a Druid so I mainly use flight form, but still!). Ugh. Oh well, at least it means a new pet and new achiev for Gal! Which is another reason I use Livestock… To show off all 113 minipets… lol.

RankWatch

by Xanther on Feb.15, 2010, under World of Warcraft

I just have to say that RankWatch is an awesome addon. Somehow I managed to miss the important little tidbit somewhere along the line that when you have dualspecs, and train a higher ranked spell/skill, that it does not update the spells/skills on your other spec. So if you’re in boomkin form, train a higher level rejuv… When you switch over to resto you’ll need to update your bars otherwise you’d be casting a downranked rejuv. If you’ll note, both spells cost the same % of your mana, but one heals for less. So it’s essentially pointless to downrank most spells, other than to gimp yourself and make it a challenge.

So needless to say, since I ran a dungeon with someone who had RankWatch, it’s now easier to heal on my tree (a couple of my heals were about 3 ranks too low), and I also now have the addon. In 3 dungeons it told about 5 people they were using downranked spells. Quite useful! But here’s the nice thing about it. The first time it detects someone who is using a downranked spell, it gives them 3 whispers, one instantly after the other. The first notifies the person they’re using a downranked spell. The second tells them about how their bars don’t update across dualspecs. The third lets them know that if they’re doing it on purpose or don’t want you to whisper them about their downranks, then they should let you know so you can set the addon to not tell them.

You can’t get much better than that! It’s a nice, simple, polite way pass along knowledge, and to help people play better. I’m sure it was only a little boost for the dps who were using a lower dps spell, but I have no doubt it helped the tank who was using a downranked consecration. Regardless, it definitely helped me, and healing is now easier.

101 = Dalmatian

by Xanther on Jan.18, 2010, under World of Warcraft

Ok, c’mon. Who wouldn’t want one of these?

Doesn’t it make sense, that they add a 100 pet achievement, and that you’d get a dalmatian for your 101st one? I bring it up because I finally hit 100 minipets yesterday, ty to my wife! She got 2 of them off the AH that we’ve been tracking, waiting for good prices. You know, the horde ones. Yes, I now have a pink flamingo to follow me around. I might favorite him for a little, but tbh, I love Livestock. It auto-summons a random minipet (or favorite, if I mark one) for me whenever I zone, move, enter a dungeon, etc. It does the same with mounts, and makes it so you can use one button to mount, regardless of if it’s a fly or no-fly zone. Totally awesome addon. I mean, what’s the point of having 100 minipets if you don’t actually use them all!

Tip though – adjust the setting on it to not pull out minipets during raids. It avoids the drama of people who don’t like them, and it also means that your little whelpling doesn’t trigger DBM’s breath notice when he tries taking in a deep breath! Though entertaining, that can be rather annoying, lol. But anyway, c’mon Bliz – Dalmatian for the 101st pet!
